Fleet Foxes main man Robin Pecknold is at least trying to ensure the cold seasons retain a degree of warmth, having released a surprise fourth album Shore a couple of weeks back, right on time for the Autumnal Equinox.
Today marks the first actual single to be released from Shore, with an accompanying video for ‘Can I Believe You’, arguably the most anthemic number from what is a more accessible turn after 2017’s prog-folk masterpiece Crack-Up.
Directed by Pecknold’s brother Sean, simple choreography, a mixture of soft, technicolour lighting, and a sparse stage anchors the dance performance-based video, letting the track’s themes of connectivity and honesty come to the fore.
Of the track Robin Pecknold states: “This song draws from the age-old folk tradition of headbangers about trust issues. The verse is the chorus, the chorus is a bridge, the bridge is a different song. It’s all backwards.” See the video below:
